As geothermal grows in stature as a source of renewable energy, issues related to risks, costs, and the speed of power generation will likely drive its widespread acceptance and define the difference between operators who succeed and those who don’t. It isn’t surprising that prospective players and investors may be wondering if there is a way to manage risk, lower cost, and efficiently deliver geothermal power on demand. Our recent work indicates that there is – and it’s through a unique approach that runs subsurface reservoir engineering and well construction in parallel with surface permitting and design activities. This approach to geothermal can be leveraged to de-risk conventional projects, efficiently expand existing fields, or effectively design and execute close-loop energy systems for power generation or thermal applications. Experts from Baker Hughes and GreenFire Energy will participate in a panel moderated by Marit Brommer, Executive Director of the International Geothermal Association, to discuss how this approach is being leveraged by operators worldwide to make geothermal a more affordable and available source of energy, as well as a profitable energy business.
